- 4. New features
- 5. And finally...
-
- 1. Installation
- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
-
- After you have un-zipped connct12.zip, you should have two new files:
- connect.exe (the Windows executable) and connect.txt (the one you are
- reading now).
-
- To place CONNECT in a Windows group, select the group you want to put it
- in, then from Program Manager, select File | New. Select "Program Item"
- and click "OK". Type in the path of CONNECT (ie. C:\COOLSTUF\CONNECT.EXE)
- in the "Command Line" text box and click "OK". Windows will default the
- new item's description to "Connect" and the icon to the CONNECT icon.
- You can change these by clicking once on the CONNECT icon and hitting
- Alt-Enter.
-
- IMPORTANT: THIS PROGRAM REQUIRES VBRUN300.DLL!! You can get it at:
- <http://www.netins.net/showcase/mikewrld/program.html>. There is a link
- for vbrun300.dll near the top of the page. After you download vbrun300,
- you need to place it in your system directory (usually \WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
- Version 1.2 now requires cmdialog.vbx for saving and loading files. I'd
- say if you have Windows, there's about a 95% chance that you have
- cmdialog.vbx. If you don't have it, email me and I'll tell you where you
- can get it.
-
- 2. Playing the game
- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
-
- To start the game, double-click on the icon. Click in any row or press
- the numbers 1-7 on the keyboard (but not the keypad) to place your game
- piece. Then the computer will think a while and place its piece. The
- game ends when either you or the computer has four game pieces in a row
- (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). You can change the difficulty
- by pressing the Options|Easy or Options|Not-So-Easy menu items.
-
- To play with 2 players, click on Options|2 Players. A status bar will
- appear at the bottom of the window. Player 1's pieces are red and Player
- 2's pieces are black. Typically, you would want one player using the
- mouse and the other using the keyboard to place their pieces.
-
- If for some very weird reason you need to save your game, you can now.
- Just click File|Save Game... to save and File|Load Game... to load. I'm
- sure you will probably never need it, but hey, it was good practice for
- me :)
-
- 3. Where to get CONNECT
- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
-
- You get CONNECT via World-Wide-Web at:
- <http://www.netins.net/showcase/mikewrld/program.html>. There are other
- programs that I have written. Some are pointless, but there are a few
- cool ones (including a funky screen saver).
-
